If you’ve ever seen Survivor, you’ve probably seen one of the contestants sporting a Buff bandana as they trek through the jungle or wade across a remote river in the middle of nowhere. But are those reality bandanas useful in the real world? I believe they are.

Additional Information on Buff Headwear

Buff headwear ($23-27 MSRP) is designed to not only protect you from the bugs that might annoy you streamside, but also blocks out 95 percent of harmful UV rays. UV Buffs are also made from CoolMax, so the microfiber helps you stay cool and maintain hydration.

Pros About Buff Headwear

I’d never really heard about Buff headwear prior to the Fly Fishing Retailer show in Denver this year, when Buff unveiled the Catch and Release High UV Protection Buff ($10 each with all proceeds going to Trout Unlimited). Along with the Catch and Release model, any of the Angler Series, UV Buffs (they even have a few pair with fishing prints), or models with Insect Shield could be useful to fishermen. And along with the UV and CoolMax technology, most of Buff models also incorporate Polygiene technology for active odor and sweat control.

Cons About Buff Headwear

I don’t really see any cons with Buff’s products unless you don’t look good in a bandana. And even if you don’t do bandanas, Buffs can be worn a dozen different ways, including around the neck to keep the bugs off your back when you’re on the water.

Conclusion

Buffs Angler Series, UV and Insect Shield models are all about protection. Buffs keep you protected from the elements, insects, dehydration, and whatever else Mother Nature throws your way. And they might even make you look like a reality star while you’re on the water, too.
