Product Review: Sheffield Angler 17-in-1 Multi-Tool

About.com Rating fourhalf out of Five

By Brian Milne, About.com

When I first heard about the Sheffield Angler 17-in-1 Multi-Tool, I thought to myself, "ho-hum, just another multi-tool."

But when I pulled the tool out of the package, I quickly realized this fun little tool is actually made for fishermen (what a concept).

The suggested retail price is $26.99.

Additional Details

As the name implies, there are 17 different tools in one on this utility tool, including useful fishing tools such as a hook sharpener, 3-inch fillet knife, scissors, fish scaler, hook remover, ruler/hard file, wire cutters, awl, flat and Phillips screwdrivers, can opener, soft file and pliers.

Pros

The extra-long needle-nose pliers are spring loaded and have a hooked tip just like the jaw of a salmon – which helps for removing swallowed hooks.

The tool is also rust resistant, which is ideal for freshwater and saltwater fishing.

Plus it’s light for how many tools it holds, weighing just over 9 ounces and folding down to 4.5 inches long. The tool also comes with a lightweight carrying case and has a limited lifetime warranty.

Cons

There really aren’t any with this toll. It would be nice if it was maybe a little more compact and lighter, but that’s a lot to ask from a 17-in-1.

Conclusion

All in all, a very useful multi-tool that’s perfect for stashing in the boat or the float tube.
