With 75 world records, as listed in the International Game Fish Association’s 2007 World Record Game Fishes book, Sage Fly Fishing has more than three times as many records as the next closest competitor (G. Loomis had 24).
And while many fly rod manufactures talk the talk when it comes to conservation, Sage walks the walk.
Sage is at the forefront of conservation, whether it’s teaming up with RIO and Redington to fight the Pebble Mine in the Bristol Bay Region of Alaska, or downsizing its print catalog to focus its resources on its website -- where you can find a new rod along with helpful resources like a nifty cast analyzer.
About Sage Fly Rods
Sage, founded in 1980 by legendary rod designer Don Green, is currently located in Bainbridge Island, Wash.
According to the Sage Website: “Sage was created with one idea in mind - to build the world's finest performance fly rods. Using world-class materials and years of experience gained while working with Fenwick and Grizzly rod companies, Don revolutionized the fly fishing world.”
Originally known as Winslow Rod Company, which consisted of just six employees in a 1,500-square-foot manufacturing space, Sage is now a 175-employee and 30,000-square-foot operation.
Most Popular Sage Fly Rods
Some of their most popular fly rods over the years include the "Reserve Power," or RP, a rod developed for extra-long casts and windy days.
In the 1980s, Sage tried its hand at graphite rods, creating the high-performance Graphite III RPL fly rod.
But while Sage was focused on being at the forefront of fly fishing rod technology, the company also kept its purists happy with classic rods such as the LL Series 2-5-weight rods, built specifically for the lightline angler.
In the mid-1980s, Sage broke into the saltwater fly fishing scene with the RPLX fly rod, and, to keep those two-handed fly casters home in the Pacific Northwest happy, later created a line of spey and European-style double handed rods.
New Fly Rods by Sage
Today, nearly 30 years later, Sage has fly rods for almost every type of fly angler and fishery you could imagine.
Other popular rods by Sage include: the RPL, RPLX, LL, TH, DS Series, Graphite IV SPs and SPL Series, XP, RPLXi 5-piece travel rods, SLT, TCR, Xi2 Series, G5 technology line, near-weightless TXL Series, entry-level Fli and Launch Series, Z-Axis and ZXL (BASS Series).
In 2009, Sage created the ultra-fast action TCX, a well-rounded, kryptonite green rod designed to fit a wider range of casting styles and preferences.
