Good News for Washington Salmon Anglers
While salmon fishing has been shut down all over much of the West, Washington-based anglers will be permitted to catch chinook salmon and hatchery steelies on sections of the Columbia River beginning today (June 16).
"A lot of anglers are anxious for an opportunity to fish for salmon and steelhead on the Columbia River," Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife spokesperson Cindy LeFleur said in a statement. "They're finally going to get that opportunity."
More than 50,000 chinook salmon are expected to return to the Columbia River this season – up from 37,000 last year. About The 325,000 steelhead are expected, matching last year’s total. For limits and other regulations, see the WDFW’s regulations page.
