Columbia River Coho Numbers Down

Sunday March 16, 2008
The forecast for wild and hatchery coho on the Columbia River in Washington is down under 200,000, the lowest numbers since the late ’90s, the Seattle Times reports.

A Fish and Wildlife official said the poor returns will certainly affect fishing this year.

The final seasons and regulations for salmon fishing are set to be put in place April 6-11.

This news comes on the heels of news out of California that Sacramento River fall-run chinook salmon have seen the lowest counts in 37 years of record keeping.
