ZG Helios Still the Best Rod Around

Saturday March 1, 2008
Orvis’ ZG (Zero Gravity) Helios have been named “Best of the Best” by Field & Stream magazine for the second straight year.

The magazine notes that the Helios saw “10-to20-foot distance gains unfurl within a few casts for almost everyone. A 5-weight feels like a 3-weight; a 10-weight feels like an 8-weight. In the end, we were convinced you get what you pay for, and we couldn’t quite say that about some other rods.”

What you pay, however, is the catch. The rod costs $755 (make that $800 if you want it personally engraved). According to Orvis, the ZG Helio uses “exclusive thermoset thermosplastic resin technology combined with an all-new steeper taper” to create one of lightest and most technologically advanced rods around.
