Best Fishing Towns in America?

Thursday February 7, 2008
Ever wonder where your town ranks among the top fishing destinations in the U.S.?

Well, Field & Stream magazine might have your answer.

The February issue of the magazine lists the top 20 fishing towns (less than 100,000 residents) in the country, and I think you’ll be surprised by some of the results.

I was shocked Missoula, Mont., didn’t even crack the top 10, especially considering Bozeman was all the way up to No. 4.

I've been lucky enough to fish in Bozeman and Missoula, and, not to discount Bozeman’s fishing scene, but I don’t know if you can find a better fly fishing destination than Missoula – which, as the article admits, “was the inspiration behind the modern fly fishing movement” but still came in at No. 11 on the list.

I’d be interested to hear your comments on the selections, so please feel free to add your comments below. In the meantime, here's the magazine's top 10:

1. Glenwood Springs, Colo.
2. Mountain Home, Ark.
3. Traverse City, Mich.
4. Bozeman, Mont.
5. Minocqua, Wis.
6. Apalachicola, Fla.
7. Nantucket, Mass.
8. Bend, Ore.
9. Guntersville, Ala.
10. Morehead City, N.C.

I didn’t want to take all 20 from F&S. For the other 10, click the link in the blog that says “top 20 fishing towns” for the entire list. Let us know what you think of the top 20.
