Give Expos, Trade Shows a Go

Monday January 14, 2008
Just when the winter doldrums start to get me down, the outdoors expos and fishing trade shows have me daydreaming about rising rainbows again.

If you’ve never been to an expo like this past weekend’s International Sportsmen’s Exposition in San Mateo, Calif., it’s basically a winter wonderland for fishing fanatics. A Cabela’s or a Bass Pro Shops on steroids.

Anything and everything you’ve ever needed for the upcoming spring season is available at these shows, so stock up now while the gettin’ is good and the fishin’ is bad. The San Mateo ISE is in the books, but there are more shows on the horizon. The expos pick up in Sacramento (Jan. 17-20), Denver (Jan. 24-27), Phoenix (March 7-9) and Salt Lake City (March 13-16).

There are a couple of Fred Hall’s Fishing Tackle, Boat and Travel Shows slated for this year as well, although it looks like the San Francisco leg has been canceled.

The California-based show will be picked up in Long Beach (March 5-9) and Del Mar (March 26-30) later this year. Additional outdoors trade shows around the country are listed here.
