The Future of Fly Rods

Saturday December 1, 2007
It's amazing how far fly rods have come over the years. Rods were once made of bamboo, and many would argue the finest rods still are, but today’s high-end models are made out of a whole lot more.

Take Orvis’ ZG (Zero Gravity) Helios limited-edition model, for example.

The ZG Helios are quickly becoming the most talked about rods on the market because of their design and limited quantity. Only 250 first-editions rods have been released by Orvis, just in time for the holiday season.

If you can afford shelling out $755 a rod (they can be personally engraved for another $45), this is the stick for you. According to Orvis, the ZG Helio uses “exclusive thermoset thermosplastic resin technology combined with an all-new steeper taper” to create one of lightest and most technologically advanced rods around – the gift of a lifetime for 250 lucky souls.
