We're not even a full two months into the new year and a state record has already been broken in South Dakota.
On Jan. 23, Aaron Jones of Rapid City set a new state record - which was recently confirmed - with his 30-pound lake trout caught at Pactola Reservoir.
His trout was 41 inches long with a 24.5-inch girth, and looked more like a California lingcod than a freshwater trout.
While the fish wasn't caught on a fly, it shows just how big the trout can be for fly fishers and spinning-reel anglers alike in South Dakota this year.
