Fishing Guide Q&A: Snowhite on Catching Snakeheads

By , About.com Guide   August 25, 2011

Follow me on:

Snakeheads have become the modern day, freshwater "Jaws" in the U.S.

They're all over the headlines whenever the invasive species is discovered in a new pond or lake.

They've been the focus of sci-fi horror movies and numerous wildlife documentaries.

But rarely are they talked about or even pursued by the fly fishing community, because the species is so rare and controversial.

Washington D.C. area fly fishing guide Rob Snowhite is one of the few fly fishermen who's actually landed a trophy snakehead, and he's not shy about talking about it ... even advocating that anglers make "lemons out of lemonade" and pursue the species.

"They are an awesome fighting fish," Snowhite said, "and I'm glad they are here."

Be sure to read the rest of our entertaining Q&A with Snowhite, who talks about how he caught his first snakefish and what effect he thinks the controversial invasive species will have on the industry.
