People Who (Want to) Fish: Barack Obama

Tuesday September 30, 2008
Once the election is over, what is Barack Obama’s No. 1 priority?

To go fly fishing of course.

OK, the presidential hopeful isn’t going to drop everything and head up to Missoula in November, but he’s talked about being an aspiring fly fisherman.

While many have associated hunting and fishing with the republican ticket (Sarah Palin shot a moose for goodness sake), Obama has a little outdoors in him as well.

I’ve mentioned Obama’s wish to fish here before, but in an interview with Field & Stream recently, he mentioned he’d seriously like to get out on the water once the election season winds down.

“... I tell you, one of the pleasures of being a presidential candidate has been traveling all across the country, and we spent quite a bit of time in Montana recently,” he told the magazine. “I am absolutely certain that one way or another, after this presidential process is over, whether — because

I lose or because I win — and I've got a little vacation time coming, I’m going to learn how to fly fish, because that land is spectacular.” Amen, Obama. Send me an e-mail, and I’ll show you where all the fall hotspots are in Montana before Jack Frost shuts things down for the winter.

What was wrote asbout Obama is a CROCK!! He aint going to learn no fly fishin’. He is just trying to get votes, I do not believe for a moment that he would actually do this. He will not take the time and he is not the kind to do this anyway, Bahh Humbug!! Also I am disapointed that this kind of thing is on this web site. Lets leave the politics OUT! It sounds like you are for him and if so that’s O.K. but it’s not O.K. to publish it here. If you did it because it’s “YOUR” web site and you have that right then take me off your mailing list! Lets get back to fishin’ and leave the other junk out of this, O.K.!

Alaska’s trout and wild salmon breeding in “Bristol Bay” are being poisoned by copper mine residuals. The smallest amount of copper is deadly to living creatures.I know,my poor dog swallowed a penny by accident.
The “pebble mine”being developed in Alaska’s “BRISTOL BAY”is a massive intrusion into the biosphere of “BRISTOL BAY” a huge footprint, including man-made dirt dams.
Whose paying for the roads to access these sites? What would happen if this dam broke? A toxic spill would poison the spawning grounds for centuries.
Sarah Palin named her daughter “Bristol”
Where is she on this issue?

I wish that we could just have a lake nearby so my husband could fish every weekend. The benefits that would come from him being able to fish often would be an easier mind set He wouldn’t be so anxious to do something out of the ordinary all the time. he would be more relaxed father and enjoy simple moments . My greatest wish and prayer has been “for him to be able to fish anywhere, anything, anytime of the year” and make him happy. But he works and makes ok’d money in this part of the country and to buy a house and get by financially we DON’T LIVE BY A LAKE OF ANY SORTS. so all you complainers be grateful you can fish local and weekly. Cause the peace of mind We have given up is astronomical and leaves a constant question on our mind “when are we gonna go fishing” every month we try to plan but timing and distance always becomes a trival question. all for the Savior.
