Two State, World Records Set
The International Game and Fish Association has granted two more state freshwater fly rod records this summer, one of which is a new world record.
Peter Binaski’s 3-pound, 10-ounce rainbow trout caught on Jan. 21 at the Yampa River in Colorado earned the state record on a 4-pound tippet.
Dave Chermanski’s 3-pound, 4-ounce black crappie caught on the Econlockhatchee River in Florida on Jan. 15 earned a state record on a 12-pound tippet.
The latter of the two catches was also a world record as Chermanski set both the 12- and 8-pound tippet world records for black crappie this year. He also caught a 2-pound, 12-ounce black crappie on the St. John’s River in Florida on Jan. 16 for the 8-pound tippet world record.
The 2008 edition of the International Game Fish Association’s World Record Game Fishes was expanded to include at least eight new species, which means you could catch the next world record and find yourself in the IGFA world record book.
New species added to the line class, fly rod and junior record categories include the barbell, black grouper, blacktip shark, buri or Japanese amberjack, gilthead seabream, gray snapper, hickory shad and Orinoco peacock.
