Record Start for Columbia Sockeye
Friday July 4, 2008
Updating an earlier post on the salmon runs on the Columbia River in Washington, it appears the sockeye run up the river is just "dandy," according to the Seattle Times.
In fact, the run could be the largest return in almost 70 years with the initial counts reporting more than 65,000 sockeye.
"It is a really big number coming back now," Fish and Wildlife biologist Joe Hymer said, "and we aren't even up to the typical peak yet."
All of which is good news for the West Coast, which has seen more bad news than good news of late when it comes to salmon.
