People Who Fish: Barack Obama?

Monday April 7, 2008
OK, it was a slow news weekend on the fly fishing front, but fly fishing did come up in Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama's speech in Missoula on Saturday.

Heck, even Hillary Clinton was talking outdoors in Missoula over the weekend, referencing Montana's famed female trailblazer Jeannette Rankin in a speech on Sunday.

But do either of them fish? I doubt it, unless it was for some kind of publicity stunt. Obama, however, was impressed by the beauty of Big Sky Country, noting that he should throw some waders on and learn how to fly fish. But instead of heading up to Rock Creek to go tangle with some browns, he decided it would be better if he tried to focus on becoming the next president, emphasizing a "fierce urgency of now."

Well Barack, if you get elected, I'd be happy to show you a thing or two on the water next time you're out West.
