Grand Canyon Anglers All Washed Up
This time it’s the Colorado River on the rise, and the Grand Canyon guides and fly fishers who despise.
According to The Associated Press, a planned Grand Canyon water surge is scaring anglers away and costing the local guides some spring-training customers.
Officials hope the release of water from the Glen Canyon Dam scours sand from the riverbed to rebuild the popular beaches frequented by hikers, campers and rafters.
“Beneficial flood is an oxymoron,” said Wendy Gunn, co-owner of Lees Ferry Anglers. “When you call it a flood, people think it's this huge wall of water.”
